Wix vs Squarespace

Both are good builders, and both cost a small business roughly £100 to £350 a year. The differences that matter are the cheapest plan that does what you need, how you like to edit, and what happens when you want to sell.

Short answer

On annual billing, Wix is cheaper at every level: Light is about £108 a year against Squarespace Basic at £144, and Wix Core is about £192 against Squarespace Core at £204. Wix also has a free plan. Squarespace has no free plan and charges a 2% fee on store sales on Basic. Choose on how you like to edit, not on the small price gap.

Over three years

Three years of the entry plans: about £324 for Wix Light against £432 for Squarespace Basic. Three years of the plans most businesses use: about £576 for Wix Core against £612 for Squarespace Core. Both then add domain renewals after the first year.

Wix vs Squarespace beyond price

  • Free plan. Wix has one, with Wix branding and a wixsite.com address. Squarespace has a 14-day trial instead.
  • Selling. Squarespace Basic adds a 2% fee on online store sales, which Core removes. Wix Light cannot take payments at all, and Core can.
  • Editing. Wix lets you drag elements almost anywhere. Squarespace works within more structured templates, which some people find easier to keep looking tidy.
  • Adding tracking code. On Squarespace, code injection (needed for things like the Meta Pixel) is Core and above.

Which to choose

Pick Wix if you want the lowest price, a free plan to start on, or freedom to place things exactly where you like. Pick Squarespace if you would rather have structure that keeps a site looking consistent without much design effort.

Or pick neither. If you would rather not build it at all, our packages write, build, host and look after the site from £449 setup and £39 a month. See our prices.
